What is the difference between front wheel drive and rear wheel drive cars?
I know how the rear wheel units of work, but how the front wheel drives work? I've heard that front-wheel drive vehicles are better in the snow too, but is that true? What is the difference mechanically?
The truth is – it depends. The front wheel drives are considered better in the snow, but mainly because the comparison open differential rear-wheel drive vehicles, and because most rear-wheel drive vehicles today are performance-oriented. The advantage comes with the understanding that the front-drive vehicle drive wheels, meaning a driver can use the power transmission the wheels to prevent or reduce a skate – something that the driver of the rear wheel can not. The engine is also on the driving wheels, improving traction a little. However, it lost traction to the front wheels on hard launches, due to the weight transfer to the rear wheels, so a four wheel drive vehicle back has an advantage over the strip of friction. The front of the drive system consists of wells connected to the CV joints, which allow the front wheels to be under the direction and strength simultaneously. A rear wheel drive consists of an output shaft driving a drive shaft that is connected to differential back through u-joints (as opposed to the CV joints). Traditionally, the front traction motor is mounted across (facing wheel) while a unit of the rear wheel is mounted longitudinally. Hope this helps a little!
