To plan your road trip may not be able to travel around the Earth in one lifetime, but a road trip to Four Corners in the U.S. is certainly achievable! Make sure that this trip to the scene "to see your list because it is the only place in America where four states meet.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: An excellent time to plan a road trip to this region in the fall because the landscape red, orange and brown colors will remind you of autumn. End Spring is also nice because it is summer, if you have a tolerance of dry heat and full supply of bottled water.
What States meet where? South-western Colorado, western New Mexico, northern Arizona and southern Utah. There is even a "Four Corners Monument to mark the spot. Hand, hand, foot, feet, and is officially in four states at once.
FIELD WHAT I expect to find? The Four Corners is actually part of the Grand Circle (which includes the Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde National Park, Bryce Canyon, Zion Canyon National Park Capitol Reef, Natural Bridges, Hovenweep, Arches National Park). What we find is plains stretching to the horizon in gold. And Russet plateaus of land stands a chaotic but strangely patterned. This ancient land is a land of Native Americans, Western borders located in a harsh landscape and towels.
What kind of activities can I do? This region offers great diversity, as it forms a great trip for families, couples or a group of friends so you will not have trouble filling your Road Trip Planner with activities suited to their age and activity level. Explore places like archaeological digs, cliff dwellings, historic railroads, and western cities. Two of these corners are on the Navajo Nation and Ute Mountain Indian Reservation. You also find a wealth of national parks in this region.
HIGHLIGHTS Southwest Colorado: Cortez is considered the archaeological center of America and the nearby Mesa Verde National Park. It is the first national park to preserve the works of man, in this case, the Town and its ancient history spans 14 centuries. FESTIVAL: Discover festivals happening all year in this region as the Mesa Verde Country Food, Wine & Art Festival, 9th annual edition of Mesa Verde Country Indian Arts & Culture Festival, or the Ute Mountain-Mesa Verde Birding Festival.
HIGHLIGHTS OF NORTHWESTERN NEW MEXICO: A different Southwest flavor can be found in New Mexico. Sparsely populated, with a strong combination of Spanish cultures, Mexican and Native American, parts of New Mexico may well give an idea of what pioneers were to set eyes on this land of mountain wilderness. Farmington is the largest city near the Four Corners, but I'd add Santa Fe and Albuquerque, to your travel agent on the way to enjoy the different atmospheres, click here. Bonus Activity: Take a ride on the Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway, the longest cable car the world and glide over the deep canyons and beautiful terrain to a single viewpoint.
HIGHLIGHTS OF NORTHERN ARIZONA: For the Navajo experience deep, add Monument Valley to the trip planner on the road. Discover rock formations, hills, plateaus and canyons in this tranquil valley. Some of those arrows pierce the sky like needles (excellent photo op). PREMIUM SIDE-TRIPS: Further west, but well worth the drive 3 ½ hours is Lake Powell, a popular swimming / Boat landing. And here he is only 2 ½ hours to see the South Rim of Grand Canyon, a spectacular natural wonder.
Utah SOUTHERN HIGHLIGHTS: Here you will find the "Old West". The bandits, cattle rustlers, outlaws, and law enforcement officials who tracked to justice all those called in this part of Utah home.
