Does the oil hole Sturmey-Archer gears centers also lubricate the bearings?
I am gradually refurbishing all the bearings on my bike with fat. However, not knowing how to do this with Sturmey-Archer arts centers – is the oil that is poured through the hole of sufficient lubrication, or repacking is necessary, so? Thank you.
Yes, use machine oil light in the center. If you are adventurous and want to break the axis of separation, abroad can redo the bearings with lithium grease and lightly coat the inside of the gearbox with Vaseline and petroleum jelly before assembly. Then can keep the center a few drops of machine oil occasionally. EDIT: Trevor … you did not read my response very well. FYI, Vaseline petroleum jelly is an excellent gentle lubricant for tight tolerance parts, not too good for the bearings. Try the next time you rebuild a center for internally oriented and be amazed.
