Why are modern bicycle parts painted steel instead of chrome?
I always thought it was very attractive chrome on a bike, but Most of the time when modern bikes use steel pieces that are painted instead. Why is this? Even small details like headset cups are painted.
However, the cost has anything to do with it, but it is not the only reason. Unlike you and me, many people feel as cheap looking chrome and flashy … the general movement away from chromium is due to the preference of consumers. Look around at all the cars … almost no chromium.
