What do I need to worry about changing the mother in my road bike?
A few years ago, was secured by the bike shop where I bought my road bike that fit me perfectly. Yeah, right. I would change the stem of a shorter but I do not know if that will affect the handling or braking. Am I going to ruin my bike if I do this?
you need to ensure that the mother is the perfect size for their holders. that has to be the angle right too. If only going to go shorter, make sure you go to a bike shop that knows what they are doing so you do not have to travel back and forth. shorter stem means turning a bit less sensitive, as the center of the handlebar is a little behind, along with respect to its front axle. ask the seller Bicycle shop if you can ride one for a couple of weeks and come back in a different size if not comfortable. you should have no problems accomidating you. and in response to a previous answer, change its fore and aft in the seat of power will affect the angle through its stroke and possibly (especially if you use clipless pedals) cause damage to the hips, knees or ankles. DO NOT do this if you have not experienced any of this in his horse.
